Learn to incorporate herbs into your everyday lives for health and healing. Each month we will embark on hands-on adventures into culinary delights with an herbal twist!
Herbs for Winter Wellness - January 18
Take your homemade broths to a new level by adding herbs and mushrooms for their added health benefits. In class we will make a vegan mineral broth in an Instant Pot with variations that can be made in a slow cooker or on the stovetop at home. In the 2nd part of this class, we will learn how to make delectable herbal medicine balls by incorporating powdered adaptogens and medicinal mushrooms into nut and/or seed butters along with honey, dried fruit and cacao. This is a great way to get even your most picky eaters to enjoy the benefits of herbal medicine. The focus of our artistry is winter wellness.
Herbal Condiments & Burdock/Ginger Pickles - Feb 8
Gomasio and Furikake are traditional Japanese seasonings using toasted sesame seeds and salt as well as seaweed as their basis. We will provide several ingredients in class for making our own version of an herbal Furikake using traditional ingredients along with nutrient-rich herbs like nettle and culinary antioxidant, anti-inflammatory powerhouses like rosemary, thyme and lemon peel. In the 2nd part of this class, we will learn the health benefits of burdock and ginger and make pickles (Yamagobo)!
Herbal Support for Common Digestive Woes - Mar 15
Indigestion, Gas, Bloating, Abdominal Cramping and Acid Reflux are all too common in our modern world. Learn how stress and poor eating habits can contribute to chronic digestive woes and herbs that are extremely beneficial. There will be ample time for Q&A before we dive into making Fennel Seed After Dinner Treats and Digestive Lozenges.
Herbal Syrups & Bitter Tonics for Mocktails - Apr 19
Learn to make herbal syrups and bitter tonics as a healthy addition to sparking waters for herbal mocktails. We will sample and discuss the health benefits of a variety of herbs before making two different syrups as well as a bitter digestif.
Class Details
Students will bring home products we've made in each class along with instructional handouts. Class size is limited to 10 students. Register early to insure your space.
Each class runs from 1:00 to 3:30pm.
COST: The entire series is $350. Individual classes can be taken for $95. A $20 materials fee is due to the instructor at the beginning of each class.
