Oxymels as Food & Medicine with Cheryl Fromholzer
Oxymel – originates from the Greek. “Oxy” meaning sharp or sour and “Mel” meaning honey or sweetness. Oxymels have become increasingly popular as an alcohol-free herbal preparation for a variety of conditions - it all depends on the herbs and spices you use.
Fire Cider is a traditional, time-tested "oxymel" made with a blend of powerful immune-boosting ingredients infused in Apple Cider Vinegar and honey. In this class we will go over the history of Fire Cider, its many health benefits (not just immune!), and talk about each of the ingredients and variations that make up this spicy, sweet and sour herbal medicine. Participants will be involved in chopping ingredients and making their own personalized version of Fire Cider to take home.
Fire Cider is likely one of the best known oxymels - but there are many others! Recipes with be provided for a variety of oxymels including those that target lung health, liver and digestive health.
